Potassium fluoride

Potassium fluoride is an inorganic salt with the chemical formula of KF. It is a white crystalline powder with salty taste and easy moisture absorption. It is soluble in water and insoluble in ethanol.
Chemical formula: KF
Molecular weight: 58.097
Physical Properties
Water solubility: soluble
hazard symbols:T
Melting point: 858℃
Density: 2.48g/cm3
Boiling point: 1505℃
Refractive index: 1.363
Vapor pressure: 922mmHg at 25°C
Appearance: White crystalline powder
Solubility: soluble in water, hydrofluoric acid and liquid ammonia, insoluble in alcohol
Chemical properties
It is slightly decomposed when heated to sublimation temperature, but the activity of molten potassium fluoride is relatively high, which can corrode refractory materials. It can form adduct KF·H with hydrogen peroxide2O2. There are two kinds of hydrates: KF·2H2O and KF·4H2When the temperature is lower than 40.2℃, the dihydrate (KF·2H) can be crystallized from aqueous solution2O), monoclinic crystal, can be autolyzed in crystal water at 41℃.
Application
1, for glass carving, food preservation, electroplating;
2. It can be used as welding flux, insecticide, catalyst, absorbent (absorbing HF and moisture), etc.;
3. Used as analytical reagent, complex forming agent and raw material for preparing potassium bifluoride;
4. It can be used as fluorinating agent of organic compounds.
Storage method
Store in a cool and ventilated warehouse. Keep away from fire and heat source. Keep away from direct sunlight. Package tightly. Store separately from oxidants, acids and food chemicals. Do not mix storage. Storage area should be equipped with suitable materials to contain leakage.
First aid measures
Skin contact: Take off contaminated clothes immediately, rinse with plenty of flowing water for at least 15 minutes, and seek medical advice.
Eye contact: Immediately lift eyelids and rinse thoroughly with plenty of flowing water or normal saline for at least 15 minutes. Seek medical attention.
Inhalation: Leave the site to fresh air. Keep the respiratory tract unobstructed. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. If breathing stops, give artificial respiration immediately. Seek medical advice.
Ingestion: Rinse mouth with water and drink milk or egg white. Seek medical advice.
Fire protection measures
Hazardous combustion products: hydrogen fluoride.
Extinguishing method: Extinguish fire with plenty of water. Use atomized water to disperse smoke and irritant gas.
